Siem Reap - Koulen Mountain
This tour takes you to Phnom Kulen, a sacred, spiritual mountain, located 60kms outside of town. It was here that most of the sandstone for the Angkor temples were quarried. It was here that the Cambodian King Jayavarman II declared his independence from Java in 805 and made himself a Good King. On the summit, he created "Cult to the Linga" and between the numerous waterfalls that fall into each other, he carved the riverbeds with symbols of fertility.
A stunning drive through the Cambodia countryside will bring you to the base of this holy forested mountain and once on its top, you can swim in the holy pools, visit the largest reclining Buddha Statue in the country and get an understanding of widely held animist beliefs.
Delve into jungle to stand, in awe, of the life size elephant and lion statues. This is why you surely came to Cambodia - to see it, to swim in it, to feel it...
There are some options to tailor this tour as there are many places to visit on the revered mountain plateau, some more challenging then others. The mountain also has a number of NGOs involved in Organic farming.
